Ms Leanne Nixon is currently the acting Deputy Director-General, State Schools, Queensland Department of Education.  Ms Nixon was appointed to the role of Assistant Director-General, State Schools – Performance in 2014 and her priority is to develop innovative strategies to improve student outcomes.  Leanne previously worked across Queensland, from the coalfields of Central Queensland to the outback community of Cunnamulla. She served as the Foundation Principal of the Queensland Academy for Health Sciences on Queensland’s Gold Coast and Executive Principal of Calamvale Community College.  She worked with principals and colleagues to develop school improvement agendas as a Teaching and Learning Auditor.  

Leanne is recognised in Queensland, Australia for her educational leadership across the teaching profession and professional contributions to advancing learning for students, colleagues and the system. She encourages rigorous discussion and learning across the system. She believes that professional conversations we have are critical for building on what we know is effective teaching and learning. Above all, Leanne believes in our state school system, our school leaders and teachers and the students.
